CUNNINGHAM, Albert Albert
Cunningham, Sr. age 83, a commercial builder in Atlanta whose career spanned 60 years,
went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2008. He was born on June 7,
1924 to the late Phillip and Maxie Cunningham. He grew up in Clayton
County, GA where he worked for Delta Airlines before faithfully serving his
country for three years in the 231st Army Air Force Base Unit in Alamogordo, New
Mexico where he was awarded the American Service
Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was united in Holy Matrimony in 1943
to his life-long love, Blondine Norwood. To this union were born Albert
Jr., Gloria and Alfonza. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a
young man and lived his life with one goal- the up building of the kingdom of God. He joined Bible Way Church in
the late 1940's and served the Lord in many capacities including Chairman
of the Deacon Board for more than 50 years, President of the Senior Choir,
Director of the Young People, and leader of the Brotherhood. He had a
lifelong passion for teaching young people and for mentoring young deacons
and ministers. He settled in the then developing community of Thomasville
with his young family and his parents to be near his in-laws, the late
Robert Norwood, Sr. and Mother Darthula Norwood. It was Robert Norwood, Sr.
that he credited with having taught him the trade of brick-laying. He was a
skilled master brick mason who built a successful commercial contracting
business that provided the brickwork on buildings throughout the country,
in West Africa, and particularly in Atlanta.
He served as contractor for the masonry work on the current Bible Way
Ministries edifice where he worshiped until he was called to Glory. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Maxie Cunningham; sisters,
Laura Robinson and Mary Stubs; brothers, Howard Pearson and Frank
Cunningham. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved and devoted wife,
